Tempted But Not Taken
February 26, 2010The bible says in I Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bare. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can escape the situation or circumstance.
In today’s society it is nearly impossible to go a day without being tempted by something that is against the will of God. Whether that temptation be lust, drugs, alcohol, an opportunity to lie, or the opportunity to get even with someone we all face temptation. In a culture filled with moral depravity and pressures, Paul gave strong encouragement to the Corinthians about resisting temptation. He made some valid points. 1) Everyone deals with temptation. 2) Others have resisted temptation, and so can you. 3) Any temptation can be resisted, because God will help you resist it. Paul also explained how God helps us deal with temptation. 1) We have to recognize those people and situations that give us trouble. 2) Run from anything you know is wrong. 3) Choose to do only what is right. 4) Pray for Gods help. 5) Seek friends who love God and can offer help when you are tempted. Running from temptation is your first step on the way to victory over temptation.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit the Lord laid it on my heart to do a series on temptation called “Tempted But Not Taken”. That title has such a deep meaning. This title lets me know that the devil can tempt us all he wants to, but he can’t take us. To God be the glory! The devil tempted Job by touching everything around him causing him great grief. The devil wanted Job to turn his back on God. The same thing is going on right now today! The devil is tempting us to turn our back on God and sin which causes separation between us and God. But thanks be to God that even though we are tempted God does not allow us to be taken! This series will begin March 2nd on Unfolded Gospel aired on 88.3fm WXOU “The Grizz” Myself and the rest of the D.O.C. ( Desciples of Christ) are dedicating the whole month of March to temptation.
